miltassia is a bigeneric genus based on miltonia and brassia.

care

lighting

miltassias can be located from light shaded to bright with some morning and/or evening sun. avoid afternoon sun. during summer they can be placed outside.

temperature

room temperature the year round is welcome, with a winter minium of 14 °c/57 °f.

soil/repotting

miltassia needs a special orchid mix (with fir bark and peat moss) and can’t be cultivated in regular potting soil. after 2-3 years when the mix gets acid it’s time to repott.

watering

water deep, what’s flowing out of the pot must be removed after a few minutes. sitting in water can cause rot. before adding water next let it become moderately dry.

fertilizer

if the orchid is actively growing or flowering a orchid fertilizer at half strength can be given monthly.

humidity

spraying it over increases humidity. best time is in the morning so that the water can evaporte throughout the day. this also helps to tolerate if the soil becomes a bit drier sometimes.

reblooming

the bloom spike can be cutted when it has dried, it will not flower again. after blooming, miltassia is producing new shoots. eight to twelfe months later, when pseudobulb and leaf growth are finished, it is ready for flowering again. a cooler period at approx. 17 °c/62 °f with reduced watering can be helpful.
