care
lighting
paphiopedilum “dellaina” is suitable for bright to light shaded positions. it must be protected from afternoon sun, some morning and/or evening sun will be tolerated.
temperature
it can be grown at room temperature the year round, with a winter minimum of 13 °c/55 °f.
soil/repotting
paphiopedilum “dellaina” can either be planted in a regular orchid soil or a mix between orchid bark, small lava rocks and regular potting soil (2:1:1).
watering
drench the soil well, what’s flowing out of the pot must be removed after some minutes. wet legs can cause rotten roots. before adding water next let it slightly dry.
fertilizer
a half diluted orchid fertilizer can be given monthly in spring/summer and every six to eight weeks in fall and winter. recently bought or repotted plants don’t need to be feeded for the first six to eight weeks.
humidity
paphiopedilum “dellaina” welcomes a medium humidity (+/-50 %).
reblooming paphiopedilum “dellaina”
if the flower spike has dried it can be cutted off, it will not bloom again. after blooming the orchid produces new shoots. eight to twelfe months later the lady’s slipper is ready for blooming again. a cooler period in winter (13-15 °c/55-59 °f) can be helpful if bloom appears reluctant.
propagation
paphiopedilum “dellaina” can be propagated by division.
